My feather duster head just popped off. Is it sick? Or is it dying? What do I do?

It's fine, just shedding, give it 2 weeks and you'll see it slowly come out, Especially at nighttime!!

It can cause ammonia to rise while it decays....feather dusters do this when stressed or malnutrition sets in which almost always happens in newer tanks.. the new head will be much smaller as its trying to compensate for the low nutrition it is receiving...

You can try but as much as they consume it will pollute your tank ....I live by the rule if you don't have a massive reef tank stay away from filter feeders...
