Snail falling

I noticed my snail was falling out of his shell but still stuck to the wall ,but I believe the shell might fall off what should I do and I can't put him on the sand floor my crabs could get to him. Also what does this mean.

snails do not have long life spans... also what are water parameters? Nitrates?

A snails shell is part of his body. Imagine your skeleton being on the outside. If he loses it, I would say he's not doing very well.
