Some dead lookin spots on Candy Coral

Just aquired from LFS. It appears as this bottom side was close or touching the base of the holding tank. Anything I can do for it? Also, what is good placement for this coral and should it be horizontal or vertically placed in my reef.

P.S. I do not have a smaller version of the pic file if someone could help me out with that.

Thanks

Not sure on horizontal vs. vertical, but they require only moderate current with indirect bright light. What kinda lighting do you have? MHs can cause problems if the Caulastrea furcata/candy cane/trumpet coral is situated too high in the tank.

I am working on a low light tank, so i am only running a 96w Coralife PC(50/50 Actinic 03/10k)
I have also noticed some strange white spots on the skeleton of the coral as well. Any help?
