Very very discouraging - Page 2 - Aquarium Advice

I see one more white spot on the dorsal fin of the tang, that makes two on the fish. I'm coming up on 8-weeks of QT now and I for sure did not mess up the hyposalinity I was definitely at a refractometer 1.009 for 6-solid weeks/5-weeks after the last white spot. Its possible the saltwater I got from the LFS was contaminated, I suppose.
I don't think I have it in me to do another 4-8weeks right now. I am very tempted to wait for those spots to fall off (or do a freshwater dip) and then put it back in my fallow main display and feed it lots of good food soaked with garlic and selcon. I know its not the right thing to do..... what would you guys do? Would you start hypo all over again?

Either hypo or Chloroquine (10 day treatment and re-examine).

Yes.

But you just got back up to normal salinity, so I'd give it a week to see what those spots do. With ich, I'd assume that first "spot" would've dropped off by now.

If you put it back into your tank again, you know you're going to have to deal with it again at some time in the future. And catching the little buggers is one of the hardest things of the whole process!

Your right catching them was hard, it completely sucked. Mainly trying to catch the sgt. mjr. damsel I had, he was by far the hardest to catch.

What are some of your thoughts on freshwater dips? It looks like Fenner says they are good and so does the book I read by somebody named Gregory Skomal, Phd.

Even if those spots go away and dont come back, Im considering a 3-5 mintue freshwater dip before I put them back into the fallow main tank. Any thoughts on that? Thanks.

I have never seen a FW dip that did not stress the fish out to the point of being very distressed and/or death. Never seen any good come of it. As you can tell I am not a fan of it. The two times I did it years ago I followed the directions to the tee and the fish died both times. JME

UPDATE

I never did do the freshwater dip as you guy suggested against. To get rid of those few "white spots" that showed up on my tang after I brought my SG back up to 1.025, I started soaking its food in Selcon and Extreme Garlic... as a last resort and kept my fingers crossed. I did this for a few days then a small 3-day vacation was approaching so I had to put the fish back into the main since there was nobody available to add RO to the 10gallon QT. So 11-days ago now, I put the fish back into my main tank after a 9-week QT with 6-weeks of hyposalinity. So far my tang(which was once covered in ich) is spotless and is looking perfect. I consider the hyposalinity treatment and fallow main tank treatment to be a success. Is it safe to say that or is 11-days not enough to tell? I have continued to soak all frozen food in selcon and dried seaweed in garlic. Is it ok to do this every single time I feed? Thanks.

No reason you cant. They will help to keep the immune system up.

Either way, what's done is done. No use stressing about it. You'll know the answer to that question in a few months I suppose!
