Hi,

I have a Brilliant White Hammerhead coral, but whilst it is growing well, it has darkened in colour to a light brown. Any ideas on why this would be or how to reverse this?

I have good lighting (2 x 250w MH), and a calcium reactor working in the system.

Thanks!

It is likely that your coral upon purchase was heavily bleached, i.e. without zooxanthellae, and the darkening is that of repopulation of this internal "algae" healing the coral to a natural state.

As James said the problem is now while it is white. It`s bleached. It should turn brown. Here is mine which is 7 yrs old. BTW it`s called a hammer coral and not a hammerhead coral.

Agree with the others. Hammer corals should NOT be white, and especially not "brilliant" white. Luckily, it sounds like it's recovering.
