White Patchy Spot
As you can see in the pictures, my hippo tang has a white patchy spot on one side of its tailfin. Could this be marine velvet or some other bad disease? It has been there for about a week, has not got worse or better. It is the only area on the fish with this white patch. Thanks for your help.

That really does not look like ick. Maybe a fungal problem. Can you give a little bit of a more detail desription or more close up pic or both.

I know it is not ick. It is a white patch on one side of the tailfin. Pretty sad but that is the best I can describe it. It is way bigger than ick. Maybe like the size of half of a dime. With exception of that one area the fish looks great. What does Marine Velvet look like? That was my main concern. If it is fungus what do you recommend for treatment.
Thanks. |

As far as fungus problems I have had some good results with pimafix. You`ll need to QT the tang first and treat him. I`ll send some articles on fungus when I get home. I dont have them here. I`ve heard good results from that tea tree oil that is in pimafix. I do have to say that I have never used it on a tang though.

Marine velvet looks very similar to ich. I agree, it looks to be fungal or bacterial.
