aaa my black knife fish!

i was looking at my fish today and out comes my black ghoust knife fish and too my horror his bottom fin has been completly torn up! I have no idea how it happened. None of my fis have ever been nippers well except the gourami's to each other but they are in another tank. Will he be ok? its pretty bad it looks like frayed jeans or something...help

Get some Melafix for him. They were more than likely caught on something to cause that type of injury. Take a look around for sharp objects in closed in areas that the BGN likes to frequent.

well he useualy is jsut in the rock cave and is pretty smooth in there do u think it could be from the gravel?

Unless you have some sharp edged gravel, no. How is your bichir doing (if he is the BGK's sole tankmate)?

he is just fine fin's intact, just as active as always. I was planning on moving them to the 55 gal tonight. I forgot to mention that. Is it a good idea to move my bgk or is its too stressful?

Since he is not being harassed and it doesn't appear to be any medical condition that is causing the fin damage, leave him in the tank.

Being only 3" long, it is possible that the Polypterus decided to see if he would fit in his mouth.
