Amonia poisoning question

A couple of days ago I noticed that the gills on my loaches were a reddish color. I got the amonia problem under control, but I am wondering if their gills are premanently damaged or will they eventually go back to normal.

Sorry ewolff, unfortunately the effects of ammonia poisoning are life-long. The reddish color may fade and the gills may go back to their normal colouration, but the results of the respiratory damage experienced are permanent.
