betta died from weird fungus

i had a betta for quite awhile and one day it was fun (or at least appeared to be) and the next day the one side of his body looked like he had water under his skin and it was all white...his eye had puffed to about the size of his head and he couldnt swim straight and the water had a funky smell to it.
he was my first fish ever and the first to die
if anyone could tell me what was wrong wit my betta i would really appreciate it.

Sorry to hear about your betta. Could you tell us a little more about the type of tank you had him in, how often you did water changes, and how much you fed him?
