Borneo sucker/hillside loach

My friend bought himself a Borneo sucker yesterday evening, and I've just woken up to a text this morning telling me he's died in the night the tank he was in is rectangular like the ones in the shop, approx 25l, and 21 degrees C. He was housed with only a group of danios. Does anyone have any idea what could have killed him? I wondered whether it's worth buying him another one or whether something in his tank isn't right for the fish

Those are a Coldwater species I believe

They are, his tank is a little on the warm side but not warm enough to be tropical
