I won a huge goldfish at a carnival and I think he might eat my small goldfish. I moved him to a 100 gallon by himself (also I put him in a betta cup and let him get used to the water) he lives in a tank with lots of [healthy] live plants, sand, and a very expensive filter. I feed him Hikari Goldfish food and he doesn't eat it. He is a pretty big fish. Does anyone know why he wont eat?

Carnival fish often are ill or extremely stressed. This one apparently hit the jackpot when you wont him since most end up in bowls or dying at the fair. Well done on the home you are providing him.

Now, how long have you had the tank set up? What are your water tests showing as fat as ammonia or Nitrites go? Often if he is brand new, the shock from being in a bag to this large new tank will cause him to not eat for a few days and its normal. They are a hardy fish and if he is swimming around, appears healthy, and your water parameters are good.........he will come around and start eating. Dont overfeed him these first few days as that can cause your ammonia to spike and do more harm than good.

If you have an algae waffer, toss that in. It will attract him and he may nibble it if he gets hungry enough. Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving.

Awesome! For some reason they cant say no to the algae wafer. This is great news!
