I recently had to put two tetras down - both were laying on the bottom of the tank - one missing the bottom 3rd, the 2nd with no fins and no tail. I filled the sink with ice cold water, then filled it with ice.

I agree clove oil would be a good way to go.. It's the same concept as when a vet puts a dog or cat down.

How is he (and you) doing? Did you manage to find some clove oil?

He's actually still holding on! He doesn't seem distressed just hanging out on the bottom. Once he appears distressed i may reconsider but right now I'm letting nature take its course

Sadly Mr Grumpy died overnight and hopefully is now in a better tank swimming about happily

I lost my 2 year(that I've owned him) old betta last week it's hard losing a friend :( sorry for your loss.

It sucks, but in some ways it's a saving grace. You weren't forced to do something you didn't really want to and his suffering has ended naturally. He's in a better place now. :)

Exactly there is no way I could kill him. I won't even kill bugs!
I've even bought my replacement my parents are collecting him tomorrow

I haven't replaced my betta yet because it made me sad when my first one died.
