My girlfriend and I just started a new tank and it looks like a few fish have nips out of there fins we have 2 sunset platys 2 cherry barbs 2 long finned red minor tetras and 4 blood finned tetras. Every fish has a nip out of them except the 4 blood fins and one long finned. The cherry barbs are missing half their tails and we just got one of them yesterday. We have a 13 gallon tank. How do we find out who is doing the nipping. The male platy nips the female constantly if that helps.

You're a bit over stocked. Your tetras and barbs need to be in schools of at least 5, if they aren't in full schools, especially barbs, they can get really nippy.

Thank you for the reply. What should we do from here? We don't want them stressed and it looks like most of them are.

If I were you I'd take out two of the schools of fish and only keep one and up the number to 5 or 6.
