Ok I have a 150g
and all the parameters are normal-
its been up and running several years with a general mix of
healthy community fish -
several each of the following -
large balas'
irisdecent cats
large buenos aires tetras
giant danios
rosery barbs
a few small various (sharpae')tetras or zebra danios..
all healthy.

one giant danio-
has turned very dark to medium brown,
and fins turning red..
otherwise seems healthy but a very strange color than any of the danios have ever been over the several years?

spawning? old age? what?

not so worried about this one fish as it may just be age related ?
but more wondering if its a diesease and/or contagiuos?

havn't changed food ,
and do regular water changes /check parameters etc..

thanks for any,
all input or advice :)

Can you take him out and qt for a while? This way if he does have something, at least he is away from the other fish.

Hi Meredith-
well i do have a 10 qt tank..
and used to use it as we aquired new fish or had some ill ones,,

but its been so long since we bought any new fish( the tank was seeming a bit overloaded , but wasnt )
or a had any ill ones i havnt had the qt tank set up in over a year :(

anyway he is still brown, but more normal colored than yesterday

If you still have it, you can use it. Just set it up with heater, filter and such. Fill it with water and some gravel from your main tank. Keep him in for observation for a week or two. You can keep any ammonia down by doing pwcs every other day or so.
