If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Ew! It looks like a few things may have happened--the fish got hurt and a econdary infection took hold, or it is an internal infection. I can't tell from the pics--is the side bulging out?

Could be a tumor, or a parasitic cyst. Is the would bloody?
Goldies are prone to a few different diseases than tropicals.

the wound doesnt seem to be bloody to me
the fish eats , seems slower than usual and seems to be favoring the lumpy side a bit
there was some white cotton like material in the wound a later this day, and a cotton like area developed behind the eye on right side opposite the bulging side, however the cotton like area around the eye fell off and the ghost shrimp began eating it.

i pulled the fish early this morning from the pond and put a dose of melafix in the 10gal tank it is in now.

also the tumor thing scarily is in the back of my mind.....argh
i am just not sure which meds, for what, and hopeful to gain some insite as to which meds ppl have had success with when what for is determined...lol

hey........btw....thanks

Just so you know, I am not a pond person, nor do I keep goldies.

This doesn't sound good. When you pulled this fish from the pond, did you put it in an established tank with other fish--I saw the other goldie in the pic. I would be fearful of whatever this is infecting other fish.
A thread like thing maybe a parasite of some sort.
Start with three things:
1~post in the pond forum
2~change the topic of this thread to include the word "goldfish" so others with goldies may be able to help out (go back to the first post, hit the edit button and change the subject.)
3~Look through these sites:
http://www.aquatronicsonline.com/hobbyist/hobbyist3.htm
http://www.aqualink.com/disease/sdisease.html#ich
http://fish.mongabay.com/diseases.htm
http://www.wetwebmedia.com/AqBizSubWebIndex/fishdisho.htm
http://www.fishpondinfo.com/health.htm

What are your tank parameters (ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, temp)?

OK I am not a pond person & I have never seen what's in the pics in my goldies. However, bump, with red sore, white threads are suspicious of columnaris.

Read this: http://puregold.aquaria.net/pg/disease/symptom/byname.htm#COLUMNARIS
& see if it applies.

Also search around this site as I find it full of good info for koi & goldies.

For goldies, best thing to do is to treat with antibiotic food rather than just adding it in the water. If you can get some from the lfs that is best. You can make your own by soaking the food in the antibiotics & feeding it to the fish. I have lost my link to the exact dosage of how to make your own antibiotic food :( but I think it was at koivet.com.

Also, for parasites, a salt bath is really good & is worth a try - I am thinking that this may have started out as a parasite & gotten infected. Do you see anything hanging out the sore - like an anchor worm or something? If so, you might be wise to treat all the rest of the fish to prevent spread.

day five with mela fix
the scales and afflicted area seem to be improving, but the lump is still present, gotta think .. tumor i guess

the fish eats normal swims almost normal and loves ghost shrimp now.....lol
i think i will try epson salts after the 7 days of mela fix then let him go back with his buddies for what life he has left.
the other pond fish are all in good shape so i will just treat his tumor when needed and take things as they come

thank you for your ideas and url's
