My betta has been acting odd for a while and now I know for sure he has dropsy. He's bloated and has lots of pineconeing. He's not interested in eating even when he's near the surface, and doesn't react to me moving my finger in front of his eyes.
Is there any way to help him? Is he a lost cause?

To my knowledge, as of this time, once the fish has pineconed, no one has saved a fish that far gone. The pineconing means the organs have stopped working due to disease or failure making the fish incurable at that point. With Dropsy, prevention is the only real option unless you catch it very early on.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. :(
