29 Gallon salt tank with water parameters within normal ranges across the board. 2 small ocelaris clowns and one fire fish. live rock, but no filter. introduced some snails and hermit crabs to clean algae and within a few days the clowns were getting white spots along the bod and fins. Today one of the clowns died, but the fire fish has had no signs of white sports at all, no where. have checked it several times daily and checked water parameters daily.. fire fish has no signs at all of any spots, not on fins or anything. it is moving and eating and acting normally. the other clown still has white spots on body and fins. several ove the snails and crabs have also died, but did not display any signs of being sick, no spots, no noticable actions that made me think they are unhealthy or acting weird. Snails/crabs died about a week after i got them and 3 days before the clown. I asked an employee at my local fish store for advice, they sold me a bottle of something called Ich attack.. it does not have copper and is save for inverts and corals.. dont have corals yet. also they said to turn up the temp to 84 F. So I dont understand.. why would the fire fish not appear to be sick? would there be any reason the clowns are stressed and got sick but not the fire fish? could the snails/crabs have introduced something that only affected the clowns? I am very confused, it doesnt make sense to me that some fish get sick and others dont.

I've just had white spot in my tank, my rummy nose tetras (7) all had it my red based tetras (6) all had it my guppies didn't my pearl gouramis didn't and my loaches didn't, I read somewhere some fish are really heathy and don't catch it as quick or are just hosts I think

First of all, this is in the wrong section and I'm sure a moderator will change it soon :)

So you said that the tank doesn't have a filter? All tanks should have a filter. It not only helps with biological filtration, but also the mechanical filtration. Did you add all of the fish at once? Also, do you test with strips or liquid?

But anyways, yes some fish take longer to contract ich. But if it's in the system and the others got it so easily, my guess is that so will the firefish eventually. You need a QT tank to treat it so it doesn't die. Even if the ich treatment is safe for inverts. I wouldn't want to put extra stress on them. If you must, then go ahead and treat in the tank. You must act quick though. The longer you wait, the more susceptible the firefish is to disease.

added the clowns and the single fire fish at once. that was over a month ago. about nearly 2 weeks ago i added the snails and crabs. i think there was a total of a dozen of the snails.crabs mixed together... they are small. none of the fish are adult sizes. this morning the other clown died... now only the single fire fish and remaining snails/crabs are left. fire fish still has no indications of being sick, no spots, is eating and is moving and swimming like normal. I am still treating with the Ich attack they sold me at my local fish store.

Keep treating for at least a week after the last sign is shown. I don't believe inverts can carry ich (can anybody confirm or correct neon this), so that's not it. It must've been in the system. Was there anything you did recently that could've stressed the fish out?
