Hey everybody,

I had my 10 female Bettas, 4 male bettas, and three ghost shrimp living in a bare bottomed but "planted"/heated 29 gallon tall tank. The males lived in divided barracks inside the tanks where they couldn't see each other, and the barracks have slats for circulation of the tank water.

I had to remove the males as I noticed my two light colored males, Camaro (orange) and Redneck (pink/red) had dark black faces and black discoloration on their bodies and fins as well. The other two males are dark as is and I cannot tell if they are affected. Now that I have removed them and placed them in separate containers, my once active males seem lethargic. I could chalk up some of that to lack of heater, but don't want to be complacent.

I checked all of my females and none of them are showing any signs of something similar, all seem very normal and healthy.

Any idea on what's ailing my poor boys and what can be done about it?

Sorry, no pics as I'm currently at work.
