My betta is acting strange. He has decided to camp out in one cave all day and only occasionally dart up for air. His fins have gotten shorter, and this has been going on for 4 weeks now, since we got 2 GBR's. The GBRs ignore the betta though, and mostly chase after the catfish when they enter their cave. What could be wrong with him?

Tank is a 20g planted community. And when I say planted I mean HEAVILY planted.

Ammonia 0
Nitrates and nitrites 0
PH 6 - 6.5
I have hard water but it has never bothered him before.

The fins are also not nipped. They just look like he had a hair cut but for his fins.

I introduced some female guppies to my male betta a few years and he did the same thing. I think they stressed him out. He got bars on his body and he started to nip his fins. Yours might be stressed too? Did he live alone before introducing the GBRs?
