My upside down catfish just hids all day.

Maybe, they are usually reasonable active catfish.

What size tank is it in? What sort of filtration? How long has this tank been set up? What are the tank mates?

Have you tested the water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrates and pH?

Have you cycled the filter? And what sizes tank is it?

You'll really need to test the water parameters.

But it sounds like you might need to do a 50% partial water change.

Could be normal as I have 2 who kept hiding as well. They like to come out at night mostly. When I rescaped my driftwood around they started coming out more. Just don't give them a place to hide. They are now mostly hanging upside down under a filter intake or a large stem plant leaf.
