My Zebra Danio turned yellowish

How do you make a water change without sucking out half of the minute little guys?

I drill a hole through the top of a two liter bottle lid just big enough to squeeze a piece of 1/4 inch air hose through and drain the water into a glass pitcher. (any white bucket will also work). Let the water settle and watch for wigglers then use a baster or another piece of air hose and suck them up and release them back into the fry tank.
