So I got 10 balloon red eye tetras 3 platys 1 golden Chinese algae eater and this one little guy has this "sore" on him now im not going to lie i got suckered into the GCAE by the fish seller and i didnt know that they like to "suck" on other fish after i found this out, i promptly returned him that said, i didnt see this guys "wound" till afterwards <there is tons of hiding spaces in my tank> and im wondering if the GCAE caused it while they where in the bucket getting drip acclimated ? the first day it was bright pink like something took a chunk from him now it is white and a lil bit puffy. not sure if i should get this guy out cause its contagious or leave him in, the water is 0 ammonia 0 nitrites 10-20 nitrates 8.2ph 77-80F i dont have a quarantine tank set up, but i do have an active sponge filter from anglesplus and i do have some extra 10 gallon tanks should i take this guy out and set him up in one of those?

All that said, sorry it was so long, he/she eats like a pig and swims just like the rest and has no outward signs of anything being wrong. his poo is normal brownish long strands so idk if its parasite or sucker fish wound.

Also ive been doing some online searching and im not sure if its Columnaris or Saprolegnia hope its neither and just a wound from the GCAE i had it does not appear "stringy" to me but it is def white and raised, i know its not ICK cause i had that years ago so i know what that looks like...

Qt him is a safe bet right now. Keep the temp low if theres a heater (@72). Gradually increase the salinity (@1 tablespoon per 5g) which will help keep things in check in the meantime. Sapro (fungus) will appear like white strands or tufts of hair and its usually secondary to an already present bacterial infection. Columnaris will be white or greyish & fuzzy/cottony looking. Heres a link with some info on both issues:

Columnaris (Flexibacteria); Aquarium, Pond Treatment, Prevention; Fungus, Saprolegnia

I put him in a 2 gallon and will do 75% pwc everyday with the good water from my 50 gallon. I hope he gets better I noticed there is white stuff on his bottom tail fin about the size of pen head... not sure what is going on, non of the other fish have any signs of trouble if he doesn't show improvement tomorrow I might try to return him cause I just got them maybe 4 days ago and I'm 99% sure that GCAE caused this...

Another 1 has same white stuff on the mouth I moved it over as well.

Also had a dead red eye in tank this morning

I hate to say this but it sounds like columnaris. Kanamycin along with salt & lowered temps is the most effective treatment. I would suggest treating your entire tank.

Won't that kill my plants? And what kind of salt, I am lowering temps now.

Aquarium salt or kosher/canning salt (just check the ingredients to make sure NaCl or sodium chloride is the only ingredient listed with nothing else). I honestly dont know how much salt it will take before your plants are affected (plant dependant)- they should be fine with a low dose (1 tablespoon per 10g). Hardy plants such as anubias can tolerate quite a bit of salinity.

well its been a few days now i did not treat the whole tank but i did get my 2 sick red eyes in a 10 gallon and i did get some salt in there, however the fish started acting funny so i did a 100% water change with water from main tank and i bought some jungle fungus clear tabs popped that in and today looks to be better the first one was swimming funny so i did another 100% water change and seems to also be ALOT better. The wound on his size doesn't have any fungus nor do its fins, dare i saw the stuff worked lol? I'm going to leave those two in Qt for a few more days hoping they will make full recovery.
