Not really that big of a gamble. I did the same with my pearl gouramis and I felt fine with them going right in. It worked out too

I had 8 originally. 2 went ghost, open top so they may have jumped, cats would dispose of the evidence swiftly, lfs had 2 left so I rescued them..
