I have attached a picture of my male sword tail. I've had him for about year and a half. He's eating fine and acting normal, I'm concerned because his scales have extended there growth over part of his tail. Has anyone else had this happen? I'm thinking it may be due to old age.

Water parameters are ammonia-0, trites-0, trates ~20.

All other fish in the tank are fine. Not new additions in over a year.

From the picture he seems to be fine. I've never seen it before in any of my swords but if he is eating fine and acting fine, I wouldn't worry.

Those are actual scales? Could be some kind of non-life threatening condition from old age, like you said.

Yeah, it looks really weird.. I'm thinking he may just have an overgrowth of scales. It's not affecting his swimming at all. I'm going to keep a close eye on him and if it does start to effect his quality of life I'll euthanize him.
