Two of my ropefish died in my 40gal died yesterday And i have no idea why
I have 1bristle nose pleco
2mollies
2redeye tetra
2pepered cory cats
2dwarf gourami
Snails
I've had most of the fish for at least 3 years and they were fine
I had 3 ropefish for about 1.5 yrs and Now i only have 3
My ammonia went up to 0.04ppm after the last one died vir everything else is normal

Very sorry to hear this.. I have one of my own and considering another.

For one thing I'm a personal believer they need a larger tank than 40g they get really long as I'm sure you have seen.

We are going to need some water parameters. Water change schedule, any physical abnormalities, etc

Ammonia-0.2
Nitrate 8
Nitrite 0
Temp 78.7
Also i have two ropefish in my 45 gal and they are fine so i dont think its the size

I also read that most rope fish are wild caught in Africa so they might have a disease from being in the wild or shipping them to america

It's quite possible. Very little is recorded of their breeding so almost all are wild caught.
