Shiny scales?!?

I've been cycling my tank for 5 weeks now, the ammonia is 0.25 and the nitrite 0.75... I think the cycles coming to an end now.

I have 4 swordtail's, 5 Neon Tetra's and 3 blue gouramis, the swordtail's are red and black and have developed patchy shiny scales on the black parts of their body's. Also the Male gourami is showing weird behaviour, He's letting the swordtails bite hits scales!?! Is this normal behaviour and should the swordtails have shiny scales?

NB. I've been doing frequent water changes to keep the levels as low as I can.

Any advice would be helpful

Do you have any pictures of the "shiny scales"? How big is the tank?

55g and i've tryed to take some pics but can't get any good ones! Is there anything i should be aware of?
