One of my two Melanochromis johannii (Electric Blue), started today with a problem. It stays at the bottom of the aquarium, moves slowly and won’t eat. He also lost his bright blue color. Normally he is very active.

It is about six to eight month old. I put it in with seventeen other cichlids three weeks ago. My aquarium got a big nitrite spike but it has been 0.0 for the last five days. The other water tests are good. All the other cichlids are doing great. I did not notice any aggression and the fish do not look beaten up. I moved it this morning to a hospital tank. Two hours latter there is still no change.

What do I do now?

This is my cichlid

Now that the water parameters are good what are you feeding? This could be a result of a digestive issue.

Unfortunately the fish died a few hours after my post.

As for the food, I feed them the same food as before, sometimes flakes other times palettes. I just purchased Hikani spirulina brine shrimp. I will give them this for the first time today.
