Sick knifefish??

I recently put a 3 inch african brown knifefish in my 30 gallon that has been cycled and has live plants. It has been a week and during the day, he just sits on the ground in his cave, and his fin stops moving. I know that knife fish are nocturnal, but I thought their fin was supposed to be in constant motion. Help!!!!!

It might be ammonia, I have 2 ppm, ph is 7.0, water is soft.

2ppm ammonia is a problem. You need to address that right away. Do PWCs to get your ammonia down to 0.5 or less.

That is certainly your first task to reduce the ammonia levels through water changes, and showing that high of a level does not indicate a cycled tank. You may want to research the nitrogen cycle some more, here's a link.

Check your water parameters again and continue with daily water changes to control the ammonia, then the nitrites will spike and you'll need to continue this till the tank finishes the cycling process.
