sick platy

I have seven platys. I originally had four but they bred! My tank is not too big so I fave the male away to another platy owner but ended up with five fry. one of the adult fish and one of the fry died and I dont know why. They went thin and their fins were down. They sometimes hid but were mostly swimming around and feeding well. I have noticed that a third one is no longer thriving and showing the same symptoms as the others. Any suggestions? I have read lods of stuff but noting that helps.
thank you

Yeah, could be tank size. Have you checked ammonia, ph, nitrite and nitrate readings?
