Please look at this attached picture and let me know if it is a disease??

I don't remember seeing this black line on my cichlid before.

Thanks!

These are P Kennyi Cichlids
I have a fluval 405
The nitrates are 5
PH is 8.2
Ammonia is 0
Nitrites are 1 because I am in the middle of cycling
GH is 75
KH is 75

This is a new tank. I put fish in without cycling
I use 1 tblspn of salt per 5 gallons all the time
Temp is 82

I used some gravel from an established tank.
Fish do not appear stressed

I also see what appears to be the start if ICH on a Electric Blue Ahli.
Not sure if it is ICH because the spots are faint
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Should I add more salt as a preventative?
I can't do water change because of cycling
Should I raise temp just in case?
I don't use meds on fish.

I don't know much about those cichlids, but I would bet that the coloration is completely normal. I wouldn't worry about that. With the ich, I would start raising the temperature slowly, yes. Heat method works wonders!

HTH

Beautiful fish,btw.

Thanks a bunch!

I keep my tank at 81 normally and there is always some salt in there, so I think I will just keep a close eye on things for now

I am pretty sure the black line is a normal marking too, just wasn't sure.

Thanks for the compliment on the fish!
I'll post some photos when my tank clears a bit.

I sure would hate to lose that one!

FWIW, ich will accelerate at 81. For ich to die it needs to be over 86. Raising the temps will not harm your fish if you add some aeration either by lowering the water level or adding an airstone.
