Can any help me with what is wrong with my SAE. I have put the best picture I can get below.

It generally seems to be eating and swimming as normal but it's stomach has ballooned.

Any advice would be helpful.

Dropsy maybe? But if it had dropsy then the fish would be acting normally. Maybe you are just over feeding it.

I consider dropsy but all the scales are normal and not sticking out.

I was wondering about over feeding but put all the wafers spread out across the tank so all 4 SAE's, loaches and plecs can get some.

Sorry to say but I don't know. I would just keep a close eye on it. Hopefully someone else might know something we don't.

Thanks for trying.

Just trying to work it out as it has only been today it has been slightly subdued at times.

Bloat, constipation, throw some lettuce and shelled peas in there. What do you normally feed?

Generally I feed Hikari Wafers and Mini Wafers for Cory's. There are a lot of bottom feeders but I occasionally give courgette or cucumber as well.

The SAE's will eat the flake and Tubifex when it is put in as well though.

Tubifex? ? Freeze dried?

Yes, King British! I feed it directly to my discus on occasion so the SAE's only get the scraps.

Do you re hydrate it first? That's most likely the root of the problem.

Usually hold it in the water for a few seconds before letting the fish have it!

Nah. You need to leave it in a cup of tank water for a couple minutes, that Sae is probably inhaling a boatload of this stuff and it's expanding in its stomach.

Unfortunately after a couple of days of not feeding I have woke and found the SAE has died.

Only 3.5 years old.
