Water is fine, well fed. He has gotten this site film on his head twice now. At first I thought it was stress and slime coat irritation from picking with the acara in the same tank. I was about to move him to my 55 but then backed off because I wasn't sure what it could be and didn't want to introduce anything to that tank. Last time it went away on its own in a few days with clean water, good food and for measure a tiny bit of melafix.

Any thoughts?

If on (not into) the head, I'd favour fungal or some infection of the slime coat. I had that with a catfish and a bit of pimafix would start clearing it in a day. Either way I think great news a bit of clean water will clear it. On mine I thought maybe he was getting micro-scratches or something somehow where the infection / fungus could start. So unfortunately would keep an eye on him as I find once a problem fish, always a problem fish.
