I recently got a rainbow shark to add to my community tank. He seems to have come in with some white cottony looking stuff on his head. I'm sure it isn't ich. should i worry?

Yes, I would be concerned. Did you already add him to your tank? I would suggest qt'ing him immediately. Pics will help in identifying what you may have.
