I have a thin, round, brown and wite worm that lives in my live rock. It went about two inches into my bristle worm trap and left. Does anyone know what this might be? Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a picture.

It is most likely a peanut worm, completely harmless as are the bristle worms.

Which leads me to ask... Why the trap?

Cheers
Steve

My tank is infested with bristle worms. Some of them are several inches long. If I don't keep on top of them, they start infesting my starbirst.

Are they damaging the coral?

Most corals that you aquire will have bristle worms in the rocks they are attached to. Unless the coral is necrosing, the worms shouldn't harm it.

Cheers

They make holes in the purple matting (sorry, I don't know what else to call this) at the base of the starburst. I don't know if that does any long-term damage. I typically only remove the worms that are several inches long. That leaves lotts of little ones.
