hey, i just started my first tank (no fish yet). ive had it for about 3 weeks and im just letting it cycle. i noticed that there is alot of brown stuff growing on my live sand and the side of my tank. this might be because i used tap water (but i let it sit for along time). is this normal for my tank? should i go invest in a clean-up crew for it now? what should i do. Thanks

I would just let it ride out. Your tank is going to go through alot of changes during cycling, most of which are normal. When your cycle is finished and if it hasn't burnt itself out, then try a cleanup crew. I wouldn't worry about it right now though.

Props on a fishless cycle!

is this normal for my tank?

Yep.

should i go invest in a clean-up crew for it now?
More than likely, they would not make it through the cycle.

Just wait it out, like Fluff said, and you should be good to go.
