Can anyone identify? red, smooth, silky

started as 2 small pieces attached to a [acronym:7c5b903a48="Broken or cut pieces of coral which will eventually grow into a new animal"]frag[/acronym:7c5b903a48]. both pieces less than half dollar size total. has grown to this size in about 6 weeks. appears to be growing directly out of the rock. no spines, stems, or ridges that I can feel.

thanks in advance.

Steve

Possibly some type of rhodophyte macro algae. Very cool hitchhiker.
