Hi

I posted a picture of a fish I have in my gallery. Can anyone identify it and tell me if it's reef safe?

Thanks

joemacros

looks like a type of anthis to me by the pic:Common Name: Male Pink Squarebox
Scientific Name: Pseudoanthias pleurotaenia
Family: Serranidae
Origin: Great Barrier Reef, Philippines

PH: 8.0 - 8.2
Temperature: 72 - 77F
SG: 1.017-1.023
Max Size: 8"/9" (Aquarium/Wild)

Care Level: Moderate
Temperment: Semi-Aggressive
reef safe: Yes
invert safe: Yes

Diet:
Carnivorous. Flake food, and marine pellets. Frozen Foods dipped in Zoe for vitamins, including bloodworms, silversides, prawns, krill, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, clams, and squid.

Temperment:
Will sometimes fight with same species for territory.

Comments:
Great for reef aquariums, best when kept in small schools will not harm any reef corals or inverts. Very easy fish to care for. Will do best within an aquarium with moderate to low lighting, as strong lighting will sometimes fade its bright colors. Can also be kept in an all fish aquarium with fish of the same temperament or lesser. One of the few species that the male and female are two completely different color variations, male having pink color with square pattern, female having an all bright yellow to orange color. see what you think here is the link:http://www.aquaticretail.com/default.php?cPath=22_23

Thats the fish in question so everyone can find it easly.

I would worry about the mouth on this one. It looks like in the photo the mouth is simular to a trigger? Can you describe the mouth on this fish?

I ID'd it in the photoGallery before I saw this post.
25 Kudos to WuRtZLeSs, it is a parrotfish, it is a princess parrot (Scarus vetula). (y)

 sorry glad you got the proper id...just goes to show you how much i don't know :(

Thanks guys for the ID. It is the most beautiful fish I have. I am heartbroken that it is not suitable for my reef aquarium. sigh.....

How long have you had it?

They do munch on some hard corals, but ultimately – this particular Parrotfish’s diet is not dependent on coral. I’ve read they also like to eat algae, meats and a variety of veggies. Check into it. If ya’ keep him happy and fed, hopefully he won’t eye your corals :D

from the picture it appears to be a blue-green parrot fish or scientific name callyodon ghobbam hope this helps you i found the info in a marine aquarium fish identifier

This is Scarus vetula http://ichtyonb1.mnhn.fr/Summary/SpeciesSummary.cfm?ID=1157
