I found a new crab in my tank today. I have no idea how it came to be there or for how long (probably came as a baby in some LR). It's a real hider, so I can't get a good picture, but I will describe. It looks much like an Emerald Crab, but reddish-brown instead of green. It has slender legs that are not hairy, and smaller claws with spines on them.

Any ideas on what it may be? Perhaps a Mithraculus species?

You could be right but without a pic it's hard to say. Hard to say without a pic unfortunately. Crabs aren't much of a threat while they are small, but as he grows, you'll probably want to think about moving it to a sump or fuge if you have one. Here is a link to help you ID it.

There is more than one page to browse though. HTH
