Im new to SW and set up my 14g biocube 2 weeks ago. There's all kinds of crazy little life appearing on my live rock now, including a few little feather dusters that suck into thier tubes when you touch the tank stand . The first picture sprang up overnight and is about the size of a dime,it has some white stuff right next to it that kind of looks like brain matter...very cool looking but im wondering what it is? The 2nd picture im guessing is some kind of sponge?

First does look a little like an anemone. Can can you see the foot? The second is a mushroom. If the first is an anemone the stock PC lights on a cube isn't enough to support it.

Well its definatly not dying...it just started growing 5 days ago. Its evolving on a daily basis. My tank is nearing the end of its cycle...these started growing off the same piece of live rock. If the stock lights wont support it should I just leave it be and see what happens with it? Is the white squiggley stuff next to it part of the anemone or is that something differant? Thanks!

Joy what do you mean by the foot? The picture shows pretty much exactly how I can see it in the tank.

I am thinking it is a bubble tip the foot should be a reddish orange if that is what it is. Like what SteveFishman said it is the part that attaches to the rock. It could be something else but it seems to me some type of anemone. Your light will be fine for the mushroom.

Oh ok...I cant see any kind of base,it's kind of set into a crevis in the rock so seeing the base of it isnt really possible. If the light isnt enough for the anemone do I just let it be and see what happens?

Heres a new picture from today, Its changing every day...very very cool!

What ever it is its very cool to watch it change day to day! Its about the size of a dime now.

you might want to be careful about adding nutrients. your algae around the mysterious creature is getting longer.

Thanks Mr X . Im not adding anything at the moment. Its a fresh tank, been set up for about 2 weeks. The tank isnt even cycled yet...probably 3-5 more days. the only thing in there is the LR also. The algae came on the LR. Im getting Diatoms(?) covering stuff also ( Im guessing thats what it is from everything I have been reading) Brown in color covering the sand and the LR that diddnt already have algae on it.

It has evolved!

Its really cool. Retracts at night and the tips all glow bright green under the actinic's!

I saw something very similar at the lfs that was marked as a " fuzzy mushroom" they were selling it for 49$....guess I lucked out with this hitchhiker!

It's probably gonna die if it's not cycled yet unfortunately.

Tanks been running about 7-8 weeks now, its cycled. This thing is tough as nails though...it started as nothing and has grown to the size of a quarter. It also survived being out of the tank DRY for 2 days while I was waiting for a eunicid worm to crawl out of the rock!! I think it will be alright.
