Found Something "Odd" In My Sump

So I decided to do some Xenia fragging. It loves my tank, and was totally covering one too many rocks. I went into my sump to grab some rubble for the Xenia to grab onto, and when I pulled out one of the larger pieces of rubble I found this:

My guess is that it looks a lot more interesting than it really is. I don't know if these pieces just fell on the rock in an odd way, and then some type of sponge or whatever it is grew them all together. I really don't go into my sump that often, just the top to grab some macro-algae every week or so. Anyhow, I thought it was odd, so I thought I'd share.
