Gear head you now it looks like Hydroids. If I were you I would take out the snail put it in a cup of SW and do a good cleaning on it. If it is that it can spread and has a nasty sting.

i had a hermit with the same thign. i let them be. nothing happend and then they started to die because the tank was no longer getting dt every 3 days. and not fuzzy wuzzy is not fuzzy any more.

I put Fuzzy in a bowl of SW overnight with about 10 different hermit shells. He fortunately decided on new lodgings and now is back in the tank in a nice clean shell. 
I will keep an eye out for any more of these little Hydroid buggers

why what do they do? like i said they have not done any thing in my tank. and he has been in there for a long time.
