is it ok to put unknown invert into plastic cup untill i can id? kudos for help!!!!!!

As long as the cup has saltwater in it. In addition the cup will cool off much faster than the tank water so I wouldnt leave it in the cup for hours. At a minimum you could place the invert in a plastic bag and float it in the tank to help maintain its water temperature.
