How to clean and reuse filter media

I have an oceanclear canister filter and was told that I could bleach the micron cartridge to clean it. What is the procedure? I think it's 2 cups of bleach to a 5gal bucket for a day then let the cartridge sit in clean water for another day then dry completely. Am I right?

how much is a new filter? imo bleach will only make the dirt stuck in it to just turn white and not really remove it !
