I bought this coral and now a couple weeks later I am unable to remember what it is called. Any help would be appreciated. Second, I have something new starting to grow on one of my pieces of live rock and it appears to be a sponge or some type of plant but any more specifics would be appreciated.

Caulastrea or candy cane coral. And the red thing is a type of macro algae

Most of the information offered online states that the candy cane coral should be fed at a minimum of twice a week. Should I actually spot feed it or would it be best to allow it to catch its own food from the water column as I feed the fish?

It in no way needs to be fed. But watching it eat is pretty cool! I wouldn't feed it more than 1-2 times a week though
