Is this a clam?

This little clam looking thing must have come off my LF. Is it, indeed, a clam? There is a cocoon looking film over the opening. Is it probably dead? Does it need to be removed before it decays? Sorry I can't take better close-ups with my camera. :(

Could be a file clam, could be a mussel. In either case just pick it up and smell it. If it moves or stays closed tight it's probably fine. If it knocks you off your feet then discard it.
 
Gee, I like your method. Just sniff, huh :wink: I never claimed to have a logical side to my brain. Well, I'm off to take the critter out of the tank and see how he smells. :D
