There are 3 of these on this rock - this is the biggest one, with the longest "stalk":

There are so many things that look like these, this one has little white bands on it... not sure what it might be (or if its good or not).

They look like pest anemone's. I'd keep an eye on them and go on a seek and destroy mission if they start spreading.

They do look like the Aiptasia's I found on the hitchhiker FAQ - the stripes/bands around the tendrils are different though...

looks like aptasia i had one like that in my first tank

...and out comes the rock...

Any chance they'd die during the initial cycle (I'm about a week into it)?

Its a small rock fragment I picked up for no real reason. Didn't see those on there until it was in my tank (LFS isn't well lit).

A total of 6 or 7 of these things popped out after the rock had been in the tank for an hour.

I just pitched it. Too small to be worth all this trouble.

There were lots of crevices I probably wouldn't have been able to even get to - this thing was really covered with them. The longer it was in the water the more I found. They just kept coming out of their holes.

I paid a couple bucks for it, it wasn't even a pound.

Probably could have boiled the entire rock?
