So I just stated cycling my new upgrade from a 47 gal with canister to a 90 gal with 45 gal sump. At night I keep hearing popping noises in the tank. Today I inspected every piece of live rock and only found a few crabs that ended up in the soon to be refugium.

I'm super worried I have a mantis shrimp. Worst nightmare as I have had one before and cost me hundreds of dollars in inverts.

I didn't find any pistols either.

Can someone tell me if crabs make that sound too?? Someone please tell me yes! I'm supposed to transfer my tank to the new one this week!

Thanks

Only pistols or mantis shrimp. If you keep hearing it, I'd put my money on a pistol. Get yourself a tall glass, tilt it on the side against the rocks, and toss some food inside. You'll find your prey soon enough.

I heard some heaters make a loud popping sound when they turn on and off

Sent from my phone cuz im too lazy to get on my laptop

You can get a flashlight with a red lens and look around in the tank when the lights are off and maybe youll see the culprit.

Nothing so far but I put a load of hermits in today so we'll see
