Quick Clam ID

Hey guys brndfrb and I went shoppin today and he picked up this clam (still in the bag) It was sold as a Crocea but I am almost convinced it's a Maxima. Deep blue, little purple. Any takers?

Oh yeah, it's about 5.5" and was a mere $70!

Need to see the shell, from what I can see in the bag...it's a crocea, croceas scutes will be fairly small having been worn down from boring into the rock. Maximas are also boring clams, but do not bore as far and there scutes are only worn down about halfway up the shell.

Not mine guys, brndfrb (member here) got it. If My lights were up on the Big tank he would have come home with me. Well right after we fought over it in the parking lot, [acronym:c5dac997b7="Laughing out loud"]LOL[/acronym:c5dac997b7]. Be both got some nice things though.

It sucks

Seriously, it is very unhealthy, not sure why these other guys are trying to shine you on...luckily for you though, I happen to be an expert in clams and can get it back into good health for you, just send it to me. I wouldn't do this for just anyone

It is gaping a bit, but that is a normal stress reaction for the clam, make sure it is stable and has something to attatch to, and it should be fine within a day or two. From that pic, it does look like a maxima, but I would like to see a shot of the shell from the side, to be sure.
