Red sponge??

Any idea what this is? I thought it was like a cyanoco at first so went to remove it and it didn't lift away. Scraped a little harder and it sliced open like a sponge ?? Took no time for it to grow over the sliced part. I don't mind it except that it keeps killing my leather and I would much rather have it. Thanks for any advice.

There is no way to stop it's growth from over running the leather though is there ??

Yes. Take a tool and remove it. A butter knife or similar should work fine.

Final question. Will any remnants left behind continue to grow or will it damage it to the point it dies off??

It should grow back, so just get as much as you can.
