I noticed this tiny starfish on one of my rocks near a zoa. Can someone tell me what type starfish it is and if its safe to be in my tank?

asterina. some (few) species are reported to eat zoas. They usual problem is they reproduce to swarm proportions, or at least enough to be unsightly. pick them off, no real loss.

I had a ton in my tank at one point. No idea how they all disappeared.

These guys come and go. Every once and awhile they will be able to populate in a tank, but not very often from my experience. I think of them like a bad case of prunes and in the end, it too shall pass.

Every time I find one of these tiny stars I pick them out and put them in my 8 gallon nano that has a Harlequin Shrimp in there.
